Since a new year is upon us, it’s the perfect time to talk about some of the realistic resolutions that successful people make. {And keep!}. Even if you don’t exactly consider yourself a successful person, it’s within your power to change. All you need to do is make and keep one of these realistic resolutions this year. Just one successful resolution can go a long way toward helping you feel accomplished and successful. What have you got to lose?
Realistic Resolutions Successful People Make
Balance Work And Life
A truly successful person always considers the balance between their work and the rest of their life. No one wants to reach the end of their life, only to realize that they sacrificed everything that really mattered to their work–which doesn’t matter quite as much. Family, relationships, and well-being are the things that really matter. Successful people have figured out what the right work-life balance is for them, and then they continually self-reflect each year to be sure they’re staying on track.
One way to set a better work-life balance resolution is to set strict boundaries between work and the rest of your life. For example, if Friday nights are reserved for your significant other, then set your phone on silent and make sure that person feels important to you. If the kids need you at their soccer games, make it happen.
Learn a New Skill
Think about that one skill that you wish you could do. Gourmet cooking? Play the cello? This year, resolve to make it happen!
Learning a new skill that you’ve always wanted to learn has the potential to really enrich your life. In an article from Business Insider, several CEOs share their New Year’s resolutions, and you may be surprised at how many of them resolve to learn a new skill. These resolutions include things like:
- Play the guitar
- Do more stuff outdoors
- Take up writing
Do Something Bigger Than Just You
Successful people stop to think about their power to positively impact other people. Don’t underestimate this power, because we all have it in us. Serving other people can be one of the best things you do in the new year. There are lots of ways to do it, you just have to look around you. Volunteer for a nonprofit, help an elderly neighbor or coach a little league team on your own time. Whatever you do, make it meaningful and it’s bound to positively impact your life too!
Most of all, don’t just make resolutions. Turn them into habits that will improve the rest of your life. And don’t ever be afraid of failures!
