Red Porch Light
In this article, we’re going to be focusing on red porch lights. Red porch light can be used for multiple reasons. Ideally, they are illuminated in the month of February
. Now, most people think that the red porch light refers to the color of love, and that is why it is mostly seen in February. However, the thing is that it is actually lit to make sure that the heart stays healthy.
How does that make sense?
Well, February is celebrated as the month of the American Heart Association. The people at the American Heart Association work tirelessly to work for people who are suffering from different cardiovascular diseases.
They not only provide funds to research centers, but they also work for the betterment of people who are at risk because of their heart diseases.
Every February, the American Heart Association requests the nation to turn red in solidarity with the people suffering from different heart diseases. Many people light a red porch light as a sign of a healthy heart.
Others paint their walls red or put a red mark to stand in support of the association. Not only homes but various buildings, trees, poles, bushes, and landscapes are also illuminated with a red light.
To make sure that everyone gets to be a part of this auspicious practice, the association provides equipment to people who cannot afford to get these lights on their own.
The distributed equipment is borrowed and used for a month and then returned to the association as it is.
Myths about Red Porch Lights
Many people believe that lighting red porch light indicates that a house is free of guns. This is certainly a small misunderstanding, but if it was a deliberate move, then it worked.
Even though there was no solid basis to this claim, it helped in selling numerous red porch lights. This is because many people actually believed in the rumors that spread like wildfire.
Other Types of Porch Lights
As mentioned above, there are other porch lights as well that indicate different things.
- Blue porch lights can either be used to show respect to the police officers or demonstrate the autism spirit.
- Green porch light is illuminated to show solidarity with the veterans of the country.
- Purple porch light is used to show support to those people who go through domestic violence.
Final Word
Whenever you move past a house illuminated with a red porch light, know that it has nothing to do with the house being a gun-free zone. More often than not, it means the house stands in solidarity with the American Heart Association that is working tirelessly to provide better health care services across the country.
