Watermelon is absolutely my favorite in the summer, but so are all the other sun-sational recipes to cool you off when it’s hot. We all need something to go along with that watermelon, right? Today I’m sharing my favorite summer recipes with my readers, so you can keep cool this summer, too! Before you spend all that time outdoors, be prepared with 10 home remedies for bug bites.
Recipes To Cool You Off When It’s Hot
Citrus Lemonade
I can just look at all that citrus on a hot day and feel instantly cooler–how about you? Let’s do even better than just look at it, and create a deliciously refreshing citrus lemonade guaranteed to cool you off.
- 1 cup sugar, or enough for your personal taste
- 4 each of lemons, limes and oranges
- 1 additional lime, sliced, plus an additional lemon, sliced
- 3 quarts cold water
- ice
Combine the sugar and water in a large pitcher and stir until the sugar dissolves. Juice the 4 lemons, limes and oranges into the pitcher. I like to use a juicer like this one from Amazon. Add ice and sliced limes and/or lemons to the pitcher. Enjoy!
Homemade Popsicles
Homemade popsicles are a crowd-pleaser! This is a recipe to cool you off when it’s hot, but you have to prep ahead of time and allow them to freeze before you can eat them. It’s so easy, you actually don’t even need a “recipe”! Here’s what to do:
- Thaw a 12-ounce container of lemonade concentrate. Feel free to use regular, pink, or strawberry lemonade. Whatever is your favorite!
- Add 3 cups of ice-cold water to the lemonade concentrate in a large pitcher.
- Stir in a quart of washed and sliced fresh strawberries. You can puree them if you wish, but it’s not necessary.
- Pour the mixture into popsicle molds and freeze.
Homemade Ice Cream
This is always a family favorite recipe to cool off when it’s hot! My basic homemade ice cream recipe is easy, fast, and totally customizable. A personal favorite is to make it pistachio. Here’s the basic recipe:
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 2 cups 2% milk
- 1-2 teaspoons vanilla, or to taste
- a pinch of salt
- 1 small package of instant pudding, any flavor {this is where the customization comes in!}
- 3/4-1 cup sugar, to taste
Dump your chosen pudding mix into a large mixing bowl, and slowly whisk in the milk until the mixture is completely smooth. Stir in whipping cream, vanilla, and salt. Now add the sugar to taste, whisking until it dissolves completely. Pour the mixture into your favorite ice cream maker and freeze. I like the Cuisinart counter style you can find at Amazon!
There you go! These are delicious recipes to cool you off when it’s hot outside. Enjoy them all summer long!
