As you make your back-to-school preparations for your children this fall, don’t forget to include survival essentials for the coming year. If your child is already prepared for whatever might come their way, it’ll save them the stress and possibly the embarrassment, not to mention, you the trip to the school. Here are 10 items to include in a back-to-school survival kit.
1. Deodorant
Need I say more? B.O. usually starts to become an issue in 4th or 5th grade, but sometimes earlier depending on the child. Keep your kid from becoming the class stinker by having them keep some deodorant in their bag. Here are some doctor recommended deodorants for adolescents.
2. Tide-To-Go
For older children especially, stains can be embarrassing. Not to mention, stains, well, stain! The longer they sit untreated, the less likely they’ll come out. Give those clothes a fighting chance by sending your child to school with some Tide-to-Go.
3. Neosporin
Many parents don’t know that while a teacher can provide a student with a Bandaid, they are not allowed to give a student Neosporin or any similar product. Teachers aren’t allowed to distribute anything that is considered medicinal. But there are no rules saying a child can’t provide and use their own disinfectant ointment. When it comes to cuts and owies, this is one survival kit item your child will appreciate having at school!
4. Mini Hairbrush
Older kids in particular will appreciate having a brush on hand. However, having a mini brush at school might just save picture day for younger kids as well.
5. Toothbrush
Keep teeth clean and breath fresh. Not much more to say on this one. 6. Pepto Bismol
Tummies are so sensitive and nothing is worse than being in public with the runs! Have your child keep a travel pack of Pepto Bismol on hand just in case.
7. Cough Drops
Having a tickle in your throat isn’t just miserable but it can be embarrassing for kids sitting in an otherwise quiet classroom. Having cough drops on hand can sure be nice!
8. Lotion
No one likes to have dry, itchy skin. Send your child to school with some moisturizing lotion.
9. Mirror
Even boys will appreciate being able to make sure they’re presentable for that cute girl on the front row.
10. Spare Keys
You never know when something unexpected will come up. Give yourself and your children some peace of mind knowing they can get into the house in case of an emergency by having them keep a set of house keys with their school survival kit.
