Avoid The Washing Machine

First of all, don’t go tossing your favorite white sneakers into the washing machine. It’s really not the best way to get them clean, and could even damage them. It is much better to clean your white shoes by hand, using a brush or a sponge. An old toothbrush is really effective at getting into tight spots.

Baking Soda

Start by rinsing your white shoes with warm water to remove any loose dirt. Now grab your favorite laundry detergent and a box of baking soda. Mix together 1 1/2 parts laundry detergent to 1 part baking soda. Use that old toothbrush or a scrub brush to apply and work the baking soda mixture into the dirty white shoes. If you want to be completely thorough, unlace the shoelaces and soak them in some warm water and detergent. You can also put them in a mesh laundry bag and add them to your load of whites.

Once you have thoroughly scrubbed your white shoes, rinse with warm water. If necessary, repeat the scrubbing with more laundry detergent & baking soda mixture. Rinse again. Now all you need to do is set those shoes outside in a safe, sunny spot {where they won’t get wet or dirty} to air dry. The sun will help brighten them up even more.

I have found that a Magic Eraser works wonders on the rubber soles and trim of white sneakers. Just dampen it with water and use it to scrub away stubborn stains from the soles and sidewalls of your shoes.

For leather or synthetic white sneakers, use mild soap and warm water to clean them, then air dry as before.
